Llanedeyrn Church

The Weeding Point

In the 1750’s, an account of a ghost with a purpose was recorded in Llanedeyrn. A certain Mr Gibson was walking home when he encountered the apparition of a young woman. She was described as having plaited or tied up hair and wearing an old-fashioned petticoat. Mr Gibson questioned the ghost, who showed him a weeding instrument embedded in a tree that she wanted removed.

After an argument, the ghost disappeared in a huff and Mr Gibson resumed on his journey. He later returned and dug the weeding out, which seemed to satisfy the ghost of the young woman, who simply disappeared and no longer haunted the spot in question!
