St. Cynwyl's Church

Ffynnon Gwenno

In the parish there was - and perhaps still is - a case of a healing well called Ffynnon Gwenno. Gwenno was one of the Five Saints of Pumsaint. The spring in its cavern or level is said to have been almost obliterated by mining activity in 1913. It was said to be haunted by the ghost of Gwenno herself, who in life used the well and its healing waters, but was foolhardy enough to explore the cave near the well. It was considered off limits by locals, as there were spirits residing there. Gwenno was never seen alive again after venturing inside.
