Glenfred

There is a local legend that tells of a young servant maid at the house of Glenfred at the centre of a ghost story... It was the Christmas holidays and some young nieces of the owner were staying at the house. One night they played cards and were joined by the maid. It was getting late and the fire was burning low, so the maid went to fetch wood from outside. However, she was gone for quite some time. When she did return, she fainted.

The following morning, the owner asked her to state what had happened, but she refused. She was even threatened with a gun, but would still not reveal any details. Within a short time, the maid married her boyfriend and they purchased a large farm. Many people wondered how they could afford it, and rumour began that there had been hidden treasure at Glenfred and a ghost directed her to it! That would explain why she fainted and perhaps the manner of her owner the following day.

The Well

Sources state that at the turn of the 20th century a girl that was unable to walk drank from the well, following which she threw down her crutches and walked away.

NB We do not advise drinking from any of these sources.
