Llanthony Priory

Capel-y-Ffin

According to Roderick, a phantom monk has been sighted in the area of Capel-y-Ffin, which lies about 4 miles north of Llanthony. The figure was standing in the middle of the road that runs from the Skirrid Inn to Capel-y-Ffin and "dressed in the garb of a Benedictine monk".

It has been suggested that this could be one of the monks that once occupied nearby Llanthony Priory.

Llanthony Priory

Llanthony Priory (Welsh: Priordy Llanddewi Nant Hodni) is a partly ruined former Augustinian priory under the care of Cadw. Entrance is free.

The ruins are reputedly haunted by the ghost of a monk that was allegedly murdered there during the time of the Reformation. The apparition has been sighted, a coughing heard from within the ruins and also the sensation of encountering an "icy terror".

Roderick also recounts a supernatural vision that was said to have taken place there in 1880.
